KYLIE Minogue was the star of the show last night as she performed at the opening of a £1 billion resort in Dubai. The petite popstar, clad in bespoke Jean Paul Gaultier creations and backed by 113 dancers, played a gig costing £1.5million to a 2000-strong celebrity audience at the Atlantis Palm Jumeirah resort.Ben Affleck, Lindsay Lohan and Charlize Theron were all there to see the star strut her stuff, along with Dubai’s Royal Family and a host of billionaires and stars from the world of film, music and fashion. Mary-Kate Olsen and Lily Allen, who wore £5 million of Chopard diamonds to the bash, looked on as Kylie belted out hits such as ‘On a Night Like This’, ‘Love At First Sight’, ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head’ and ‘I Should Be So Lucky’, followed by an elaborate pyrotechnic display of more than a million fireworks that outshone the Beijing Olympics. The lavish private party was all an all expenses paid extravaganza – none of the celebs in attendance had to pay for their flights and they were put up in the resort’s luxurious rooms. The travel bill alone was estimated to be £3million. Robert De Niro was treated to the £15,000 a night presidential suite, while Linday Lohan and Charlize Theron fell into their beds after a night of partying in suites that cost £10,000 a night. The most resort’s most luxurious room, coming in at £25,000 a night had been reserved for Oprah Winfrey, but as she was unable to make the bash due to the LA fires which nearly devastated her home, Bollywood heart-throb, Shahrukh Khan managed to bag it. Richard Branson, the 58-year-old business magnate called the party “the party of the decade.” He said: “It was obviously planned before the recession took hold three months ago. This will be the party of the decade and it’ll be the last party of the decade probably.”The Atlantis Palm Jumeriah is built on a man-made island shaped like a palm tree in the Persian Gulf. It has 1,373 rooms and 166 suites, all which boast stunning views and includes a suite called the Lost Chamber where the floor-to-ceiling windows look out into the Ambassador Lagoon.
