Gay's Should Be Entitled To Equal Married Rights As Straight Couples !!

Is it too much to ask for Gay's to have the SAME marriage rights in the UK as straight couples? When as a nation we bend over backwards for the Human Rights of everyone here even Criminals & Terrorists, Surely it is a Human Right to marry (not civil partnership) the one you love, whether the same sex or the opposite sex!! We make allowances to other religions (sometimes in detriment to our own as a country) allowing stupidity like Winterville as not to offend other religions by our Christmas (when it doesn't offend most, and those who it does don't belong here & should piss off) so why do we have a problem when it comes to LOVE??

Here is a message from my friend David Watters and if you wish to support his cause information how to is included!!

I AM PART OF THE EQUAL LOVE CAMPAIGN AND WILL BE ATTENDING Greenwich Register Office at the Town Hall in Woolwich ON THURSDAY 2ND DEC 2010 TO ASK FOR A CIVIL MARRIAGE LICENCE.

TIME: 1015AM

WITH MY PARTNER, RICHARD, I AM CHALLENGING THE BAN ON CIVIL MARRIAGE FOR GAY COUPLES.

If (WHEN) our application is refused, we plan to take legal action in the courts to strike down the prohibition on gay marriages.

EQUAL LOVE (http://equallove.org.uk/category/press-release/) IS:

seeking to overturn the twin prohibitions on gay civil marriages and heterosexual civil partnerships.

WE are the 6TH of eight couples to challenge these twin bans, and the third same-sex couple to challenge the ban on gay marriages.

The ‘Equal Love’ campaign is coordinated by human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell and sponsored by the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender human rights organisation OutRage!, with the support of the Peter Tatchell Human Rights Fund.

“A similar ban on black marriages would provoke an outcry. So why should the ban on gay marriages be tolerated?,” queried Equal Love campaign coordinator, Mr Tatchell.

“The outlawing of same-sex civil marriages and opposite-sex civil partnerships are a form of sexual apartheid – one law for gay couples and another law for heterosexual partners. Two wrongs don’t make a right,” he said.

The Equal Love campaign’s legal advisor is Professor Robert Wintemute, Professor of Human Rights Law at Kings College London.

“By excluding same-sex couples from civil marriage, and different-sex couples from civil partnership, the UK Government is discriminating on the ground of sexual orientation, contrary to the Human Rights Act. The twin bans violate Article 14 (protection against discrimination), Article 12 (the right to marry) and Article 8 (the right to respect for family life),” said Professor Wintemute.

 DAVID EQUALITY WATTERS

Civil Partnerships were initially, I believe, a significant move in the right direction; a necessary stepping stone towards equality and many lesbian and gay couples embraced the opportunity to formally and legally celebrate their commitment to each other. The reality, from my personal viewpoint, is that in creating a separate institution based on sexual orientation a clear sense of otherness was conveyed.

Civil Partnerships are not as fully embraced or “accepted” socially as civil or religious marriages and this perpetuates a continued “us and them” attitude; reinforcing, rather than challenging, the inferiority of gay relationships.

The existence of Civil Partnerships played a role in shifting public perceptions and, perhaps, prepared our society for the next step along the pathway towards true social equality.

Marriage inequality perpetuates an inferior and superior class of citizen.

RICHARD JOSEPH HULL

Civil Partnerships are an invention, which cause a divide between homosexual and heterosexual couples; they are a legal form of segregation, much like apartheid but based upon sexual orientation rather than race. We are given no choice in how we would like to celebrate our relationship and are offered a compromise which doesn’t reflect our personal aspirations but instead devalues us.
